Lhasa unveiled the South Asia Cross-Border E-Commerce Industrial Park on May 9, marking a huge step in Xizang's integration into the Belt and Road Initiative. The park aims to strengthen trade links between China and South Asian nations.

Covering 16,000 square meters, the park serves as a hub for smart logistics, cross-border commerce, and business incubation. Currently, 12 e-commerce enterprises operate within the park, with projected annual transactions exceeding 2 billion yuan ($277 million). It also features a 1,800-sq-m overseas warehouse in Nepal to streamline regional trade.

Ye Haiying, director of the Lhasa municipal bureau of commerce, emphasized the park's role in leveraging Lhasa's strategic position as China's gateway to South Asia.

A three-tier logistics network supports efficient distribution through domestic warehouses in Guangzhou and Yiwu, Lhasa transit hubs, and direct delivery from Nepal. Shipping times have dropped from 60 days to 15–20 days, boosting supply chain efficiency.

Since its launch, logistics efficiency has improved by over 50 percent, while costs have fallen by 20 percent, encouraging businesses to expand into South Asian markets. Nepalese entrepreneurs at the event welcomed the initiative, highlighting China's strengths in electronic component manufacturing and trade accessibility.

In the future, the park will improve infrastructure, attract new businesses, and integrate digital services to streamline customs, tax, and financial operations, facilitating smoother trade across the region.
