Shanghai int'l film festival: 370,000 tickets sell out within an hour

More than 600 shows of 92 movies, with altogether 370,000 tickets, were sold?within an hour after the box office opening for the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival at noon on June 5.

First to go was the Golden Goblet Award winner of the Best Director's category, which was sold out in a blink of 26 seconds. A total of 12 movies from home and abroad have been shortlisted for the main competition section of the Golden Goblet Awards.

Second on the best-selling list were tickets to a series of three movies by the late American director David Lynch (1946-2025): Eraserhead, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Dr. They were followed by Brady Corbet's 2024 movie The Brutalist, and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso by Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore, who is the jury president for the main competition section of the Golden Goblet Awards of the festival this year.

The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival will take place from June 13 to 22, when altogether 410 film productions will be screened at 43 cinemas around the city.
