從11月11日起，第54屆世界小姐大賽在海南島火熱登場，120個國家的佳麗們在風光旖旎的三亞掀起風情萬種。據悉，本次賽事包括運動小姐、沙灘小姐、才藝小姐、時尚小姐等小組賽，最后的總決賽將于12月4日在三亞的“美麗之冠”舉行。外電報道如下：The 2004 Miss World pageant got off to a sizzling start on Sunday with contestants from 120 countries. The event started with the Beach Beauty final in which Miss United States, Nancy Randall, took the coveted laurels, fast-tracking her to the finals. The girls paraded on the white sand in the Beach Beauty Final, which was held in Sanya, a picturesque tropical city in southern Chinese province of Hainan. Laurel表示“月桂樹，桂冠，殊榮”，例如：gain/reap/win one's laurels（贏得聲望，獲得冠軍）；look to one's laurels（小心保持桂冠，警惕競爭對手）；rest/retire/repose on one's laurels（安于小成，吃老本，滿足既得的榮譽）。 據悉，自1951年世界小姐組織機構成立以來，由其組織的"有目的的美麗"慈善活動已經為兒童慈善事業籌集了超過2.5億美元。 （中國日報網站編）
