新學期里，上海浦東洋涇-菊園實驗學校推出了學生課外活動“高爾夫”興趣班，據悉，在公辦學校開展高爾夫興趣班，在上海尚屬首例。

For pupils bored of the traditional extra-curricular activities, such as violin lessons or drama classes, there is now another option golf. Shanghai Yangjing-Juyuan Experimental School has recently introduced the country's first golf lessons, costing 4,800 yuan (US$585) a term, for its pupils.

報道中的extra-curricular activities就是我們自小都在接觸的“課外活動”。所謂“課外活動”就是學校里不包括curricular（正規課程）在內的各項活動，說白了，就是除必修課外再“額外附加”的活動。

“額外附加的”，“在…之外的”可用前綴extra-來表達，英語中類似的合成詞如：extramarital love（婚外戀），extra charge（附加費），extra income（額外收入）。

看下面一個例句：She' s involved in many extra-curricular activities, such as music, sport and drama.（她參加了許多課外活動，如音樂、體育運動和戲劇。）
