6月12日，伊朗省會城市阿瓦士的政府辦公大樓等地發生四起連環炸彈爆炸事件，造成至少9人死亡，近40人受傷。胡齊斯坦省副省長沙里阿提表示，這次連環爆炸事件的目的是為了破壞伊朗的團結，影響將于17日舉行的總統選舉。外電報道如下：Bomb blasts struck Iranian government buildings in the capital of an oil-rich border province, followed within hours by two other bombs in central Tehran, killing a total of nine people days before Iran's presidential elections.
Iran's security service blamed the bombings - the deadliest in Iran in more than a decade - on supporters of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
State-run television quoted hospital officials as saying at least eight people were killed and 86 injured in four bomb explosions in Ahvaz, capital of the southwestern Khuzestan province bordering Iraq.
Hours later, two small bombs exploded in central Tehran, killing one person and wounding four. Police said one suspect was taken into custody.
Take into custody表示“拘留，拒捕”，custody除了“保管，監管，監護權”等含義外，在此表示“扣留，監禁”，例如：The criminal was taken into custody by the police.（罪犯被警方拘留。）take the robbery suspect into custody（拘捕搶劫嫌疑犯）等。
據悉，胡齊斯坦省是伊朗石油儲量最多的地區，其探明儲量占伊朗全國石油儲量的90%左右。同時該省也是民族矛盾比較尖銳的地區之一。伊朗的200多萬阿拉伯族居民大部分居住在這個省。當地居民和警方經常發生摩擦，有時甚至釀成暴力沖突。今年4月13日，阿瓦士曾發生一起持續數天的嚴重騷亂，導致至少5人死亡。
