Workplace romance is popular in US
|
Some 45 percent of companies ban such liaisons, while 14 percent say they discourageworkplace romances, though they do not have a formal policy on the issue, said the study released Wednesday by the consulting firm Challenger, Gray &Christmas.
Only three percent "simplyturn a blind eye tosuch matters," added the study, based on a survey of 100 human resource executives.
A recent survey on the job site Vault.com showed that 60 percent of workers admit to having had an office romance, up from 46 percent three years ago. And some 38 percent say they are aware of a romance blossoming in their workplace.
The consulting firm noted that having easy access to the Internet at the office further stokes the romantic fires.
"Adding a newwrinkleto the workplace romance issue is the growing popularity of networking sites, such as LinkedIn, MySpace and Friendster, that make the time it takes for an office romance to bud about as fast as your Internet connection," said the firm's president, John Challenger.
"More workers have access to an increasingly interactive Internet right at their desks. With Web 2.0, as this more collaborative Internet is known, it is easier to foster and hide intra-office relationships," he said in a statement.

Challenger, Gray &Christmas
