Zhang Jianchun, former deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has been prosecuted for alleged bribe-taking, the country's top procuratorate said on Friday.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate disclosed the information online, noting that prosecutors in Langfang, Hebei province, have recently filed the prosecution with the Langfang Intermediate People's Court.

The Langfang prosecutors said that Zhang should be held criminally liable for bribe-taking after finding him take advantage of his positions, including deputy head of the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee and deputy head of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee, to seek benefits for others, and accepted "extremely large" amounts of money in return.

Public information shows that Zhang, 59, a native of Shandong province, started his career in July 1984 and joined the Party in September 1987.

He became the deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee in 2020.

In July 2024, he was placed under investigation for suspected serious violations of the Party's disciplines and national laws. In December that year, he was expelled from the Party and removed from public office.

At the end of last year, the top procuratorate ordered his arrest.
