Campaign launched to help public avoid online fraud

China launched a monthlong campaign on Monday to increase the public's awareness of how to avoid falling victim to telecommunications and online frauds.

During the campaign jointly initiated by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, various regions and departments will hold a series of events for residential communities, villages, families, schools and companies across the country, the ministry said.

The ministry and the China Media Group will jointly launch a show to analyze fraud cases and promote anti-fraud knowledge. The ministry's criminal investigation bureau and the national anti-fraud center will jointly issue the 2025 edition of the anti-telecom and online scam handbook.

In 2024, police in China cracked 294,000 telecom and online fraud cases, capturing a large number of suspects, including more than 570 financial supporters, leaders and key members of fraud groups, the ministry said.

Since 2024, the national anti-fraud center has made all-out efforts to issue warnings and dissuade people from falling into traps of scammers.

It has worked with other departments to intercept 4.69 billion fraud phone calls, 3.37 billion short messages and 315.1 billion yuan ($43.86 billion) involved in fraud cases.
