East China Normal University celebrates university predecessor's centenary through exhibition

In a nostalgic tribute to the rich history and legacy of Kwang Hua University, a special exhibition has been unveiled at East China Normal University's campus in Putuo district, Shanghai. The exhibition marks the 100th anniversary since the establishment of Kwang Hua University, one of the predecessors of East China Normal University, and offers a captivating journey through the institution's past.

Open to the public from April 22 to July 22, the exhibition serves as the inaugural event in a series of celebrations honoring the centenary of Kwang Hua University. Established in 1925, the university played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape before merging with Great China University in 1951 to form East China Normal University.

Visitors to the exhibition are treated to a vivid display of history, with over 350 historical photographs, more than 100 school records and documents, and more than 20 calligraphic pieces by distinguished alumni on showcase. Some of the exhibits, generously donated by alumni, are being unveiled to the public for the first time, offering a rare glimpse into the university's illustrious past.

Mei Bing, the Party secretary of East China Normal University, said the exhibition aims to pay homage to the founders of Kwang Hua University, established during wartime and societal turbulence. Furthermore, it serves as a testament to the university's enduring commitment to education in the modern era.

A memorial fund was launched during the exhibition's opening ceremony in collaboration with the Shanghai Education Development Foundation. The fund seeks public donations to facilitate further document investigation and collection, ensuring the preservation of the university's historical legacy for future generations.
